It's hard to find untarnished sodium. It's ever harder to find outright lustrous sodium. But mirror-like perfection? That's practically impossible to get. This sample started out as "ordinary" 99.99% pure sodium metal, which was then distilled in a high vacuum. The resulting sodium was freed of slag and then remelted in a glove box and fastidiously purged of every last oxygen atom.
