In actuality this timid metal isn't all that rare. The dirt you walk on has plenty. But getting the metal isolated from its earthy prison is not a trivial task and keeping it from turning right back into "earth" is equally difficult. Element 59 is reactive in air and quickly goes from shiny metal to pile of dust. For this reason it is stored in ampules under argon. This sample weighs approximately 5 grams and have been refined to an impressive 99.99% purity.
