Biblical "Poor Widow's Mite" coin. Bronze prutah, coin type mentioned in the Bible. This is also the first Jewish coin type ever struck! Minted under the Maccabean Kings during the 1st Century BC but circulated throughout Judaea during the time of Christ. The coin depicts a double cornucopia adorned with ribbons and pomegranate within the two horns; small “L”, the back with Hebrew inscription: Yehohanan the High Priest and the Council of the Jews" in five lines within wreath. Coin with black patina and light Holy Land earthen highlights.

Referred to in the Gospel of Luke 21:1-4... "And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had."
