Ancient Holy Land. Arab-Byzantine period, circa 7th-8th century AD. A great ceramic "slipper-type" oil lamp with small thumb handle, the body heavily decorated with rosette, palm-frond and geometric designs. Spout still shows traces of charring from use in antiquity! Intact and well-preserved with multiple clumps of preserved earthen deposits still contained within. Reference: Bussiere - Rivel 361 for form. L: 4.25". Ex Ventura County, CA private collection. Accompanied by a hand-signed certificate of authenticity which includes all the details, culture, dating, motifs/inscriptions when applicable, historical relevance, and provenance.
