On the front is an Arabic inscription “Ahmad Malik Az Zahir” within beaded border /On the back is an Arabic inscription “Al Sultan Al Adil” within beaded border. The northernmost tip of Sumatra was an important shipping route and was controlled by wealthy and fiercely independent Muslim Sultanates similar to Greek city-states.
